Guide to Blogging

I shall place a curse of suffering on you that will doom you to a living hell if your blogs fail to meet the following criteria:

Each entry should be thoughtful, focus on the film(s) screened in class and integrate readings, discussions, and lectures (by referencing or citing directly from them).

Be representative of the topic(s) for each week. Essentially this is your film journal for the semester. Blogs are due on Fridays at 9 pm.  Responses are due by Sunday 11:59 pm. Blogs that do not adhere to the criteria laid out here will not receive full credit. Posts must integrate images, gifs, embedded video, links, etc.

Take notes during the screenings of anything that seems important to you — especially when connected and inspired by the readings (and by previous readings – bearing in mind the GOAL of the semester).

In an upper level seminar it is best to avoid plot summary and also veer away from expressing simple likes or dislikes and other matters of personal taste.

Your primary audience is your instructor and your classmates (but the blog is public). Mechanics and grammar count in the assessment. Use paragraphs to separate your topics, employ spellcheck, etc.

REMEMBER: It’s YOUR style and YOUR voice that interests me and not Chat GPT’s stylings. When used properly as a supplemental tool, GPT can help you in this class. 👍

Entries will be graded on a three-point system based on content (critical analysis/argument, synthesis of readings/screenings), mechanics (grammar, structure, flow, proper length), and visual/supplemental support.  Failure to comment on your classmate’s blogs results in an automatic 1.5 pt. deduction.

500-600 Words (but no less than five hundred)

Here is a tutorial to familiarize yourself with the BLOCK EDITOR which is HOW you will compose your posts.
